Conductor – Sebastiano Russo

The Schola Cantorum “Don Salvatore Romeo” began its first activities in April 1986, thanks to the will of Father Alfio Torrisi and Master Franco Greco, with the primary purpose of giving greater solemnity to the liturgical celebrations of the Sanctuary – Parish Of the SS. MM. Alfio, Filadelfo and Cirino of Trecastagni. Dedicated to the one who was more than fifty years old rector and pastor of the same Shrine and at the same time composer of sacred and organist music, he officially established as Artistic Music Association on December 22, 1987. Over the years he has participated in applauditissime concerts And polyphonic reviews in all the provinces of Sicily, realizing prestigious toournés in national and European territory. In 1994, during the Apostolic Visit of his Holiness Pope John Paul II in Catania, along with other choirs of the Diocese, he animated the solemn Eucharistic celebration he presided over. Since 1999, he has organized the International Festival “Don Salvatore Romeo”, the City of Trecastagni, Memorial Franco Greco, which sees every year the participation of internationally valuable choral concerts at the twelfth edition. In November 2009 he participated in the VIIIth Sacred Choral Music Festival of Alessandria della Rocca (AG) and won the “Musica Nuova” prize with the song “Puer Natus” by Giuseppe Mignemi. In the special 150th anniversary of the unity of Italy, the Trecastagni Municipal Administration recognizes it as a community of interest. The Coral since 2009 is under the direction of Master Sebastiano Russo.
